The Johns Hopkins Children’s Center provides a safe, efficient resource for transporting children needing pediatric care and their families to numerous specialty services at Johns Hopkins and elsewhere. Our pediatric specialty team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to provide interfacility transports by ground and air, both locally and nationally.

Request for Transport

All requests for pediatric transport are received by the transport team in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The team triages the call and then collectively with the PICU physician, Emergency Department physician, and Transport RN determines the need for specialty care prior to dispatching the team. In order to expedite our services, the following information will be needed:

  • Patient’s name, date of birth/age and weight
  • Clinical presentation and chief complaint
  • Head to toe assessment and diagnostic studies performed at your facility
  • Current vital signs
  • Patient’s PMH and allergies
  • Routine home medications, last oral intake Isolation status
  • Patient’s insurance information for transport vendor

Klein wins Star of Life Award

Dr. Bruce Klein of the Pediatric Transport department received the Maryland Star of Life Award from the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS).

The award is given each year to a person or team for outstanding rescue under extreme circumstances by EMS personnel. Each year, MIEMSS celebrates EMS Week by honoring men and women across Maryland who have contributed to the EMS system.
