 conferences

  • Noon conferences take place on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Conferences on Mondays and Tuesdays are dedicated to core pediatric topics.   Thursday conferences include the bimonthly Department of Pediatrics Morbidity and Mortality Conference alternating with the departmental Research Conference. The Morbidity and Mortality Conference is focused on systems issues that result in or could result in patient harm. Multiple disciplines within the Children’s Center participate. The Barton Childs  Friday Case Conference includes presentation of a patient by the intern who cared for that patient, followed by active discussion about the diagnosis and treatment plans. All conferences, except the Morbidity and Mortality conferences, are videotaped so residents and faculty can review at their convenience.
  • Grand Rounds takes place every Wednesday morning from September through June from 8:30-10 am. Each Grand Rounds is preceded by a 15 minute Grand Rounds Warm-Up presented by a PL2 resident. The resident selects a medically related topic that is relevant or interesting to them. Grand Rounds presenters include Johns Hopkins faculty in addition to invited national and international experts.  These conferences are also videotaped.
  • Night team morning report takes place 3 mornings a week, (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) from 7:30-8:30am. Participants include residents who are on the night team general pediatric inpatient service and oncology night teams, as well as residents who have worked in the pediatric emergency department overnight.  Attendings from the Neill and Zinkham  teams and the Pediatric Emergency Department also attend. This forum, facilitated by the Chief Residents, promotes discussion and management decision review of patients admitted the prior night.
  • Rotation specific didactics. A core curriculum has been developed for each rotation. This curriculum addresses the rotation’s unique aspects and addresses the ACGME six core competencies. Core didactics have been designed for each block rotation. A team journal club takes place during the general pediatric inpatient rotations, St. Agnes rotation and the Harriet Lane Clinic acute care rotation.
